“If I were rich I would be in good shape because I’d have a coach, a dietitian and cosmetic surgery to loose weight”
Awesome news for you, you don’t need to be rich to loose weight and be healthy. I have tested a cheap but wealthy diet and I’ve lost 20 pounds in a little more than a month.
This year on February the 3rd, I had an important meeting and when I tried to dress up, I realized that I was no longer able to wear my formal suit because of weight gain. I ended up stepping on the scale to find that I was 20 pounds heavier than 6 months ago.
I basically had two options, buying a new wardrobe or loosing weight. I choose to loose weight because the wardrobe wasn’t the only downside coming with weight gain, I had back pain and shortness of breath every time I had to take the stairs too.
I wanted to loose weight fast but I didn’t wanted to starve, going for an extreme diet like “Dukan’s diet” or counting calories all day long. I wanted something balanced and that I could keep on a long period of time.
I made my research and I was lost with the number of diets I found all around the internet.
So I made my 3 easy to follow rules, stuck to the plan and lost 20 pounds in one and a half month.
RULE N°1 : “Eat and drink like if you were lost in the wild”
First thing is to go back to basics, you don’t have to starve to loose weight. Your body needs vitamins, fibers, proteins, oils, minerals and micro-nutrients to function properly.
A lot of diets are hard to follow because you have an endless list of things that you can or cannot eat to remember. With the “Eat and drink like if you were lost in the wild” rule when you want to eat something you just have to ask yourself, “Would I be able to eat this if I was lost in the wild?” and you’ll have the answer. Trust me you can’t find Nutella, corn dogs or Cheetos in the woods.
You know what you can’t find in the woods? Sugar! You must ban refined sugar from your diet. Around ¼ of the American diet is comprised of refined sugars and this is one of the worst thing for your body. Consuming refined sugar results in a more acidic body which increase the risk of multiple disease, weight gain and makes you hungrier. That leads to another thing to avoid : alcool. Alcool is full of sugar and then again you can’t harvest a bottle of Jack from the whisky tree in the wild.
An other important thing to do is re-introducing vegetables and more specifically green vegetables (salad, green beans, kale, broccoli, spinach, asparagus, chard…) in your plates. You can eat a large amount of green vegetables on every meal, they are key to success.
Pro tip : If you’re like me and don’t really like eating vegetables you can try vegetable juices. There’s plenty of really good and tasty recipes all over the internet. I know that a lot of slow juicers or juice extractors are expensive (around 300 to 600$) but today you can find really cheap alternatives. I’ve bought the Aicok Juicer Slow Extractor under 100$ and it’s perfectly working since February.
Of course you can eat some meat or fish as you could hunt or fish in the wild. Simply prefer turkey or chicken (not fried remember you’re in the wild) over red meat.
Feeding your body with natural food and water without excess is the key to a better health and weight loss.
Don’t forget that excess of everything is bad, your diet must be balanced. Don’t only eat salad or chicken and don’t eat with excess. Yes you can find bananas or avocado in the wild but it doesn’t mean that you should eat 3 of each every day.
RULE N°2 : “Manage being hungry”
I remember the first three days of my diet journey, I simply didn’t felt hungry. I was so full because of my ancient diet that even if I drastically lowered my calories incomes it took me 3 days to feel hungry again.
My body had totally forgotten how feeling hungry was. I was confusing “being able to eat again” and “feeling hungry” so I was eating 4 big meals per day and I was continuously eating between the meals to avoid feeling hungry.
You know what? It’s ok to feel hungry, it’s natural and as long as you don’t have low blood sugar symptoms it’s only your body telling you “I’m ready to eat again” and we should’t be avoiding it at all cost. Remember that your body doesn’t really need 3 meals a day and even fasting once in a while is good for health.
But in order to achieve our weight loss goal we can do things to avoid feeling hungry.
Banning sugar really helps not feeling hungry all day because of insulin pikes and dropes.
Drinking “eight-ounce glasses of water a day” really helps too as it tricks your body into thinking he’s full. In fact, people often confuse hunger and thirst and drinking the right amount of water takes away those confusing cues.
An other thing that helps is having a decent breakfast.
Here’s an exemple of my breakfast :
- 1 glass of vegetable juice with lemon juice
- 1 avocado
- 1 banana
- 1 apple
- 1 green tea
The avocado and the banana really help you not feeling too hungry until diner time.
Eating a large amount of raw green vegetables during diner really helps you until the supper. You can eat meat or fish with it.
The supper should be lighter than the diner to let your body rest during the night, if you’re not to hungry you can only have a large glass of vegetable juice with a small portion of fish and a fruit.
If you’re hungry between meals, eat an apple slowly it will trick your body into thinking you’ve had a meal.
Rule N°3 : Move and keep being busy
Today most of us are going out of bed to sit at a table to take a breakfast, then sit down in our car to go to work, to sit at a desk 10/12h then sit in our car to go home, to sit on a couch to watch TV an d then lying in bed to sleep.
We can’t burn calories without moving, we can’t do the proper amount of exercise to be in good shape without moving.
Try not to take the elevator if you can take the stairs, walk or use your bicycle instead of your car when it’s possible and then little by little your body will burn calories.
Try to do at least 20 minutes of exercise every two days. Maybe you can run 15 or 20 minutes two or three times a week. If you’re really over-weighted running could damage your knees then walk fast or go to the swimming pool and swim. If you really don’t have time to do so, just do 10 minutes of jumping rope.
Exercising a little bit every day is really important for you health and it really helps loosing weight.
Laziness is an enemy. When you just spend hours watching TV, browsing internet or playing video games you don’t move, you don’t burn calories and it can lead to over eating. What do you usually eat when you’re doing those things? Processed food! And highly processed diet causes fatigue that leads to not being active and it creates a vicious cycle. It doesn’t mean that you must stop watching TV or playing video games but maybe you can reduce the spent on those activities and replace it with sport or doing abs and pull ups while your watching TV or between two Fortnite matches.
If you stick to those 3 simple rules for two months you should be able to loose a lot of weight. If you have questions don’t hesitate to ask in the comments below.
